Bio

Brooks was born and raised in Amarillo. He’s the founder and president of Mission 2540, a non-profit that works with families in poverty. He and his wife Sunny have 3 children (plus a daughter-in-law). In his spare time, Brooks does magic tricks and loves to fly-fish. He also likes to mountain bike, even though he is terrible at it.

Brooks joined CrossFit 806 in 2012 after 6 months of doing CrossFit workouts on his own at a local gym with poor form and strange looks from gym members. He became a CrossFit Level 1 trainer and started coaching at CF806 in 2014. He’s now a Level 2 trainer and loves every minute of it. Now that he is in his late 40s, he’s discovered the joy of scaling everything and blaming it on his age.

In 2014, Brooks turned his love of CrossFit into a fundraiser for his non-profit. He reached out to Rich Froning about coming to Amarillo, a partnership was formed, and a competition featuring Froning and his friends has been an annual tradition for our CrossFit community ever since.

What do you love about CrossFit?

I love how varied it is and how fun it is. But most of all, anyone can do it. My mom is in her 70s and is a member at our gym. My 20-year-old daughter has been a member since elementary school. They both love it.

What is your favorite thing about CrossFit 806?

We have a really special community of people from all walks of life. Some of my closest friends are people I met here at this gym.

What classes do you coach?

I coach the 6am the occasional 5am.
