Bio

John grew up in Abilene, Texas, then left for Aggieland to get his degree from Texas A&M. He began his career in education in Lewisville as a high school teacher. A friend introduced John to CrossFit, and he began making up his own modified WOD’s in the small school weight room. John, his beautiful wife, Alisha, and their three amazing kids moved to Amarillo in 2015. John spent several years as an administrator in Canyon ISD, then joined BSA Health System, and is now blessed to be the Executive Director of Amarillo Children’s Home. John joined CrossFit806 in 2019 and quickly learned those made-up modifications back in the school gym needed some coaching! He was instantly hooked by the community, coaching, and atmosphere of the gym. John became a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer in 2023.

What do you love about CrossFit?
I love that CrossFit lets me say “yes.” As a dad that loves to spend time with my kids, I know that whatever their interests, activities they want to do, adventures they want to go on, I can do it with them. Anyone can do CrossFit. My father-in-law had never set foot in a gym, and joined CrossFit806 in his late 60’s. My kids have done CrossFit workouts with their granddad — how great is that?! I love that CrossFit is so varied. There is always a new skill to learn, technique to improve, and a goal to meet. I feel just as challenged and excited to go to the gym today as when I first started.

What is your favorite thing about CrossFit806?  Hands down the culture of the gym. Each class has people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. There is a close-knit, supportive, family environment across the gym. I have made some of my closest friends through CrossFit806.

What classes do you coach?
I coach the 5:15am classes at BSA.
